Hanns House Taipei — A Little Home in the Heart of the City
Hanns House feels like a little home in Taipei City — the kind of place where you immediately feel comfortable, settled, and quietly impressed by the details. Perfectly located in the vibrant Xinyi District, the hotel offers beautiful views of Taipei 101, whether you’re watching the city wake up in the morning or glow at night. It’s a place that makes you feel both connected to the city and nicely cocooned from it.
A Hotel Built on Heritage & Character
Hanns House isn’t a standardized hotel — it has personality. Founded by Teresa Wei-Hsin Ma, an entrepreneur with experience across finance, technology, creative industries and hospitality, the hotel is inspired by the legacy of her grandfather, Mr. Chi-Liang Ma.
Throughout the building, subtle references to Taiwanese culture and history are woven into the design, from the themed floors to the room numbers and common spaces. It’s not overwhelming or “museum-like” — just thoughtfully done, giving the hotel a story beyond design.
Rooms That Feel Like Your Own Taipei Apartment
The rooms are spacious and well designed, and unlike many hotels in big cities, you actually have room to breathe here. Each room comes fully equipped. It truly feels more like a serviced apartment than a hotel room, perfect for both short and longer stays. If you can, choose a room with a Taipei 101 view — waking up to one of the city’s most iconic buildings is a beautiful way to start the day.
Dining That Deserves Its Own Chapter
Let me say this very clearly. The garlic chicken at Jacob’s Dream is the yummiest chicken I’ve ever had in my life. Yes — in my life. Crispy, perfectly seasoned, aromatic and unbelievably tender, this signature dish alone is worth staying at the hotel. The chicken is marinated for a full day, air-dried, then flash-fried to absolute perfection. Every bite is crunchy on the outside, juicy inside — and infused with roasted garlic in the best possible way. The whole meal was just delicious.
Jacob’s Dream, the hotel’s Chinese restaurant on the 2nd floor, is inspired by the atmosphere of a modern-day Shanghai teahouse from the concession era. The menu blends Cantonese, Shanghainese, Chaozhou and Taiwanese cuisines in a refined yet generous way.
And about the Breakfast
At breakfast, do yourself a favor and order the pork belly. This is not “just breakfast pork.” It’s the kind of slow-cooked, flavor-packed perfection that lingers in memory. Tender, rich, and comforting, it is — without hesitation — my absolute recommendation. Jacob’s Dream also offers a semi-buffet breakfast with Chinese and Western main courses and an elegant buffet selection that makes mornings feel indulgent but refined.
Thoughtful Spaces Beyond the Room
Hanns House has several spaces that make the stay more enjoyable beyond just sleeping. The British Concession Lobby Lounge offers a calm, elegant setting with a subtle blend of modern and traditional Chinese style — a nice place to sit with a coffee or wait between plans. The gym on the third floor is bright and well-equipped, with large windows overlooking the city — making workouts a little more pleasant than usual. For longer stays, the self-service laundry is also extremely practical, especially if you’re traveling light or for more than a few days.
Final Thoughts
Hanns House is the kind of hotel that grows on you. Not flashy. Not overly formal. Just comfortable, beautiful and well thought out. If you’re looking for a stay in Taipei that feels personal, has character, and offers a great location with a view, Hanns House is a lovely choice. A place to rest, recharge — and feel at home in the city.
